Wheel Alignment FAQs

What is a wheel alignment?

Signs you need a wheel alignment

How frequently should I get a wheel alignment?

When your wheels are in alignment, they all point in the right direction and stay in line with each other. This gives you a smooth ride, maximizes tire contact with the road, and improves overall safety. Many drivers confuse wheel alignment with tire balance, but they’re different services: alignment adjusts the angles of your wheels, while balancing addresses the weight distribution of the tire and wheel assembly.

  • Caster - From the side view, caster refers to the tilt of your steering axis compared to vertical. Too far forward or back is out of alignment.

  • Camber - From the front, camber measures whether your tires tilt inward or outward. Incorrect camber reduces contact and causes uneven tire wear.

  • Toe - From above, toe refers to whether your tires point toward or away from each other - similar to being “pigeon-toed.”

If your car feels like it’s pulling, shaking, or drifting, alignment could be the issue. Common signs include:

  • Loose or difficult steering

  • A steering wheel that vibrates at certain speeds

  • Uneven tire tread wear across different tires

  • Pulling or drifting to one side on a flat road

There isn’t a strict mileage interval, but it’s smart to have your alignment checked after:

  • Hitting potholes or curbs

  • A collision or suspension repair

  • Noticing uneven tread wear or steering vibration

  • Feeling your vehicle pull in one direction

We offer complete alignment services at many Express Oil locations. Schedule an appointment at a time that’s convenient for you.

Note: Alignment services available at select stores. Contact your nearest location to confirm availability.

Why Wheel Alignment Matters

Proper alignment is essential for safe handling, reliable steering, and even tire wear. When alignment angles like caster, camber, and toe are off, your tires lose full road contact, forcing the suspension and steering to work harder. This leads to faster wear, reduced traction, and even fuel efficiency losses. Drivers with misaligned wheels often report drifting, vibrations in the steering wheel, and uneven tread patterns across their tires.

Protecting Your Tires and Suspension

Ignoring alignment problems shortens tire life and can cause premature suspension damage. Worn shocks, struts, or ball joints often develop faster when the wheels aren’t set to factory specs. Over time, this adds up to higher maintenance costs, since poor alignment can wear through a set of tires thousands of miles early.

When to Have Alignment Checked

You don’t need to wait for severe handling issues. If you’ve recently hit a large pothole, curb, or been in an accident, schedule a check immediately. Even small impacts can knock wheels out of alignment. Routine alignment inspections also make sense whenever you replace tires, since aligning fresh tread helps protect your investment from uneven wear.

Trust Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers

Our trained technicians use advanced equipment to measure and adjust your wheels to manufacturer specifications. Whether you notice symptoms like pulling or just want peace of mind, we’ll restore proper alignment so your vehicle handles safely and efficiently. Keeping your wheels properly aligned extends tire life, reduces stress on your suspension, and helps maximize fuel economy—all while making your car easier and safer to drive.
